After facing the National Green Tribunal's ire on the issue of untreated waste being pumped into a Gurgaon village in violation of its orders, senior officials of Haryana government today appeared before the NGT and assured they would resolve the problem.
Principal secretaries of Public Health and Irrigation departments of the state made the submission after appearing in person before a bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar which had sought their presence for today.
"The principal secretaries, both of Public Health and Irrigation departments, have assured the tribunal that they would be taking decision to completely resolve the deadlock amicably and effectively and such decision would be technically viable and in the public interest as well," the bench noted and listed the matter for further hearing on October 9.
The government also refuted the allegation of ministerial interference levied by residents of Khalilpur village in Gurgaon where the untreated sewage generated from Rewari district was being pumped.
The tribunal on September 12 had sought the presence of the principal secretaries after villagers of Khalilpur alleged that Haryana minister Ajay Yadav was interfering in the matter.
"Let your principal secretaries be here. That is the real solution, when ministers are interfering," the bench had said.
The villagers had alleged that the waste which was being dumped in a barren land as per NGT's order, has again been diverted to their area due to interference of the minister.
They had contended that presently 80 per cent of the untreated sewage generated from Rewari district was being dumped into their village pond.
