The 32-year-old Colombian star announced the news via Twitter just hours after sharing behind-the-scenes footage of herself and Maluma responding to their new single "Chantaje" online.
The singer posted the sad news in both English and Spanish, tweeting, "Due to personal matters, I won't be able to travel to Las Vegas & LA to attend the Latin Grammys or the American Music Awards this year.
"I will be accompanying @carlosvives in spirit @LatinGRAMMYs, celebrating this incredible year that we've shared together with #LaBicicleta."
Vives and Shakira will compete for the coveted Record of the Year honour at the 2016 Latin Grammy Awards.
