Former Chief Justice Rajinder Sachar today termed as "shameful" the act of political parties giving Lok Sabha tickets to Muzaffarnagar riots accused.
"This is shameful and unfortunate. People who have been prosecuted have been put up to fight Lok Sabha elections. This shows the psychology (of the parties)," Sachar said.
Two of the accused -- Hukum Singh and Kadir Rana -- will be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
While Singh, MLA from Kairana, will be contesting from the same constituency on BJP ticket, Rana, who is sitting BSP MP from Muzaffarnagar, has been renominated by his party.
Singh and Rana were among the 16 politicians and community leaders who were accused of inciting violence through inflammatory speeches in Muzaffarnagar.
Sachar was speaking at the release of a report by 'Forum for Democracy and Communal Amity' on the Muuzaffarnagar riots.
A seven member team of FDCA had visited the riot-affected areas and met victims, families, community leaders and members of the local administration over a period of three days.
They had come out with a report on the findings of the visit in which one of the major demands is to make a planned effort to send the riot victims to their villages.
"Conducive environment must be created for sending them back to their homes. The government has given them compensation but it is a quick fix solution," FDCA president Muchkund Dubey said.
More than 60 persons were killed and over 40,000 displaced in riots that had took place in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas in September last year.
