The 28-year-old bearded 'Transformers' star donned a green vest and purple leggings as he completed 144 laps around the Stedelijk Museum, running a total of 43.25 kilometres alongside fellow artists Nastja Sade Ronkko and Luke Turner, reported BBC online.
LaBeouf said nothing to the onlookers and press who had gathered to witness the odd sporting feat, dubbed the Metamarathon, but Stedelijk programme curator Hendrik Folkerts revealed the run was staged to highlight the 12-hour conference about art and social media, which was taking place inside the building.
Ronkko and Turner had previously worked with the actor on his #IAmSorry installation in Los Angeles earlier this year, when visitors were invited to sit opposite LaBeouf at a table while he wore a paper bag emblazoned with the words 'I am not famous anymore' over his head.
He first wore the strange headgear on the red carpet at the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany in February.
