Hari Mohan Kaushik (45), a property dealer, was shot at five times near his residence in Kavinagar area, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ran Vijay Singh.
After postmortem Kaushik's body was handed over to his family for cremation.
Police have registered an FIR against three unidentified assailants on the complaint Kaushik's son at Kavi Nagar Police Station.
Kaushik, an accused in the murder case of his nephew, was out on bail and police is also probing the angle of the family feud.
