Silk industry has huge potential for rural employment: Nitish

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said steps will be taken to strengthen Bihar's silk industry, which has a "huge potential" for rural employment generation.
The chief minister was speaking at 'Udyami (entrepreneurs) Panchayat', where people involved in silk production apprised the state government of problems they were facing, and proposed solutions for the same.
"There is huge potential in the silk industry as far as providing employment in the rural areas is concerned. We will be providing assistance to all those who are associated with the industry, be it handlooms, powerlooms or dyeing", Kumar was quoted as saying in an official release.
Citing measures taken by his government, he said with a view to giving a boost to production of tussar silk, "equipment have been given to at least 661 women across the state, which is bound to yield impressive results."
Bihar is also coming up with measures like one-time settlement of power dues in order to incentivise silk production, Kumar added.
