Former National badminton coach U Vimal Kumar feels P V Sindhu was done in by Prakash Padukone style of deceptive game which was displayed by Ratchanok Intanon in the semifinal of the World Championships in Guangzhou, China today.
"Sindhu could not cope up with the deceptive strokes of Ratchanok, which totally unsettled the Indian shuttler in the semifinal match. The Thai girl reminds me of Prakash, who mesmersied attacking Chinese players with his deceptive strokes and tricky net shots in 1980s and early 1990s," Vimal told PTI here.
It was really fascinating to watch Ratchanok the way she was stroking the shuttle and making Sindhu work, Vimal said.
"Sindhu is okay with fast-paced and attacking game of the Chinese. If Sindhu wants to succeed against Ratchanok, she needs to cope with the Thai girl's tricky and deceptive badminton," he said.
Sindhu needs to quickly add some tricks into her kitty to stop Ratchanok from dominating her because the Thai girl will be one of the main rivals in future international events, Vimal said.
However, Sindhu has many years ahead of her and in next 10 to 12 years she could be playing on the top, he added.
Replying to a query, Vimal said the future of Indian badminton is bright with good players, including Saina Nehwal and Sindhu, doing well at international arena.
"Saina also is playing good badminton for the last four to five years. Definitely youngsters watching television and following badminton will get inspired and I am very confident that many parents will also initiate children into the sport," he said.
