Just weeks after outwitting Chinese Shixian Wang at the Swiss Open, P V Sindhu will once again face the arduous task of taming the two-time All England Champion in the opening round of the India Super Series, but the shuttler remains confident of her chances and said she is looking to better her last year's semifinal finish.
Sindhu described the women's singles draw as "tough" but said she is counting on her past record and the advantage of playing at home to beat the world number three when they clash at the Siri Fort Sports Complex on Wednesday.
"The draw is tough because I am playing Wang Shixian in the first round. I know I have won against her three times and this would be my fourth time. I hope I win this time also," Sindhu told reporters during the launch of the Yonex Sunrise Metlife India Open.
"I played against Wang just weeks back, so I didn't think ever that I will play her in the first round again, so for me it was like 'oh again'. But I will have the crowd support since it is happening in Delhi, so I hope I can play well, it is my home course, so I will have the advantage. I am confident.
"If I win again, I will play Sayaka (Takahashi) in the second round. I lost to her once but it was long back in Malaysia in 2012. So hoping for the best," she added.
Sindhu, who had reached the quarters and semifinals in the 2012 and 2013 edition of the tournament, said she wants to do better this time around.
"I really played well in Swiss Open. I reached the semifinals and with just one more point, I could have gone further. In India Open, I reached the semifinals last year. I hope I play with the same tempo and this time go further in the tournament," she said.
After playing back-to-back tournaments in All England and Swiss Open, Sindhu was back to her training and said she focused on her defence during the last two weeks.
"I was concentrating on my defence. It is perfectly all right now. After Swiss, it was back to training because the draw was like Shixian again, a Chinese player. They just go to youtube.Com and check out our matches and immediately catch our mistakes, so we have to work harder," Sindhu said.
"We have our coaches, Gopi sir is there, He tells my mistakes, I record my matches when I am abroad whenever I am playing against any player, not only the Chinese and I watch my matches.
