An official of Sirohi district in Rajasthan was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 40,000 by threatening fair price shop owners of suspending their license, an official said.
The accused District Supply Officer Mohan Lal was demanding Rs 1,000 per fair price shop. There are close to 400 such shops in Sirohi and the amount he had been demanding was Rs 4 lakh, the ACB official said.
The district president of the fair price owners' association complained to the Anti-Corruption Bureau which laid a trap.
"The accused was caught while taking the first installment of Rs 40,000. He has been arrested," the official said.
