Odisha Police today constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the circulation of fake photographs of Lord Jagannath's secret 'Brahma Parivartan' rituals on social media.
"We have constituted a three-member SIT comprising two inspector rank officers and one sub-inspector to go deep into the matter," Additional Director General (ADG), Crime Branch, B K Sharma told reporters here.
Dubbing the matter as "very sensitive", Sharma said it is alleged that some people have used the social media to post sensational pictures of Lord Jagannath's rituals in the Puri temple.
"Though it is difficult, we will try our best to nab the culprits involved in spreading the sensational pictures in social media like Facebook and WhatsApp," Sharma said.
Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) had said yesterday that the photograph called 'Brahma', showing soul substance of Lord Jagannath, was uploaded from a video titled 'Matsya Shaligram' on youtube.
The photograph was posted on social media by one Himanshu Singhal, said an official release of SJTA, a government body headed by a senior IAS officer.
The SJTA, which carried out its own investigation in the fiasco and suspended two priests after the ritual, said the three photographs doing rounds on social media and claiming to be that of the secret rituals of Lord Jagannath are completely fictitious and there is no truth in them.
