Slain VDC member's son scores 92 pc, has no money to study

Sunak Singh, son of a village defence committee (VDC) member, who was gunned down by militants 15 years ago in Jammu and Kashmir, has scored 92 per cent marks in Class 10 examinations but cannot continue his studies as there is not enough money.
His mother Nima Devi said, "So many people came forward to help the son of a terrorist who attacked Parliament when he scored good marks, but nobody has so far announced support to my son."
Sunak's father Gopal Singh, a VDC member, was among seven persons killed by militants in November 2001 in Udhampur district's Galiote village.

The 17-year-old, who studied in a government-run school, said if his father was alive, he would have been a happy man today.
His neighbours in Pancheri village, where they migrated to after his father's killing, are celebrating his success. But the boy is concerned as he may not be able to study further for want of money.
"I don't have money, I come from a poor family. It is impossible to continue my studies due to financial problems," Sunak added.
"In the absence of any help from the successive state governments, I took up odd jobs to feed my son and myself," his mother said.

The boy said he wants to become an air force officer and serve the country by fighting terrorism.
