Slum kids from Ahmedabad to perform in US
Groomed by noted danseuse Mallika Sarabhai, the troupe is scheduled to give performances in Chicago, Houston, New Jersey, Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin, Atlanta and Montclair.
Several organisations have pitched in to support the tour. Most of the children are from the slum area of Rama Pir No Tekor.
"The show 'Ekatva' is inspired by a similar project by children from slums here, called 'Ekta' (Unity), in 2001. However, this time they are younger than those in 2001, so it was all the more challenging to prepare them," Sarabhai said.
"They are in the age group of 12-13 years....It appears like a big task for this young lot, but we have experienced that they have potential of doing so much actually." PTI PD KRK
