Rajesh Kumar, the software engineer, and his friend Abhishek (28) were apprehended from Minto Road during a checking, police said.
"They were in a car and looked suspicious. Four bags were also found lying near the rear seat. It was found that the bags contained four HD video cameras for which they could not give any justifiable explanation.
"When questioned, they broke down and disclosed that they had stolen two video cameras from M/s World Media Vision, Goutam Nagar and the other two from some company in Dwarka which provide logistics on rent," a senior police official said.
It also came to light that Kumar is a diploma holder in multi-media and was earlier employed as a software engineer.
"He had ambitions of establishing a modern event management company and for this purpose required HD cameras. To meet his ambition, he roped in Abhishek, his neighbour and one Bhanu Pratap Singh. They started approaching companies in Delhi that provided logistics on rent," he said.
In this process, they obtained two cameras from the Goutam Nagar firm and two from Dwarka but allegedly vanished.
"They used to introduce themselves as NGO representatives involved in spreading awareness about yoga by way of providing them videos CDs of Yoga Camps of Baba Ramdev at Haridwar.
"They also procured fake Voter IDs which they provided to the company for procuring video cameras on rent and succeeded in procuring the cameras on rent basis.
"Although, an employee of the company accompanied the duo to Haridwar where they were supposed to shoot the Yoga Camp but they managed to slip with the cameras from the Hotel Room taken on rent while the employee was asleep," the official said.
In another case, they told the owner of logistics company that they wanted to shoot sculptures at Khajuraho for which two cameras along with handler were required.
"They were accompanied by two employees to Khajuraho. The duo managed to slip with the cameras from a train near Jhansi Station while the employees fell unconscious. They were offered cold drink laced with sedative by the accused," the official said.
