Solar power system will soon be installed in police stations in Odisha, where supply of electricity is important for implementation of the much talked about Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS).
"We have entered into an agreement with state-owned Odisha Renewal Energy Development Agency (OREDA) for installation of solar power system in some police stations," Director of State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB), M Akhaya, said.
As many as 161 police stations have been selected for the purpose.
"Of the Rs 5.90 crore agreement, we have already placed Rs 2.10 crore to OREDA for the work," Akhaya, who is also the nodal officer of the project, said.
As many as 784 police establishments, including 581 police stations in the state would be covered under the CCTNS, in which several DSPs, SDPOs, SPs, DIGs and DG police offices will be connected through computer networking.
CCTNS is being taken up as a mission mode under the government's National e-Governance Project (NeGP) in Odisha.
While the Centre has sanctioned Rs 49.76 crore, Rs 10.91 crore is being given by the state government.
Around 80 per cent work of the project has been completed and completion of the project depends on the availability of internet services, he said.
