Naik Shinde (35) was one of the two Army soldiers who were martyred in an overnight gunbattle with Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants near the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) yesterday. All five militants were killed in the encounter.
A special IAF plane carrying Shinde's body landed at the airport in evening, wheretop defence officers were present.
At the airport Major General J S Bedi, Brigadier P R Murali, Air Commodore Vibhas Pandey, among other senior officials of the district administration laid wreaths on the coffin carrying Shinde's mortal remains, an official release stated.
Hedgewar Hospital authorities, however, claimed, "no
chikungunya or dengue death have taken our hospital in this season."
"We are getting 800-1,000 people in our fever clinics every day but only 18-20 people have been confirmed to have been diagnosed with chikungunya," a senior doctor said.
