Describing Justice Iyer as the most impressive model for jurists in India, the Congress President said "Iyer was a true liberal and an intellectual giant. He will be remembered for his reformative and progressive judgments.
"Some of the judgments he delivered have shaped the way India functions today. He was a man of many interests and contributed heavily to legal literature and social welfare."
Gandhi extended her sympathies to members of his family.
In his condolence message, Rahul Gandhi said he was extremely saddened at the passing away of Justice Iyer.
"His judgements exemplified his deep commitment to the cause of social justice and creating a fair and equal society. His loss will be deeply mourned by all those whose lives were touched by his work. My heartfelt condolences to his family on his demise," the Congress Vice President said.
