Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal today launched a scathing attack on Left Front government in Tripura for its alleged corruption and failure to deliver good governance.
"There were huge corruptions in the government, particularly in the Rural Employment Guarantee Act. People who worked under the scheme in the state did not get their payment and they came out to the streets to agitate. It is not good governance," he told reporters here.
Sonowal said lives and property of people in Tripura were not safe and growth and development of people were not possible under the communist rule.
"So long communists remain at the helm of affairs, people will continue to be poor. If there is prosperity among people, then why do 67 per cent of the population dwell below poverty (BPL)?" he asked.
People will have to dream for a communist less government for their prosperity, he said.
Sonowal said the NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is earnestly trying to put the north eastern region at par with other developed states of the country and had sanctioned Rs 53,000 crore for the region last year.
This year, the centre has sanctioned Rs 28,000 crore for railway connectivity and Rs 18,000 crore for surface connectivity.
"We will give a new identity to the north-east by (sanctioning) more development works and it would be a hub of developments in different sectors," he said, adding, at least one sports centre would be set up in every block of the region.
