According to an official release, Sonowal convened a high-level meeting and sought suggestions for devising a solution to erosion in Majuli.
Science and technology should be extensively applied for devising an erosion protection mechanism, he said adding the team of officers should indentify the locations prone to erosion and take preventive measures for a lasting solution to the problem.
He also asked the department to take tangible steps within 10 days to give succour to the erosion affected people.
The Board should develop projects for fortifying the embankments of Majuli and submit the same to the Centre. The state government in its turn will take up the matter with the union government for speedy implementation, Sarma added.
