Southern Railway official gets one year RI in graft case

A special CBI court today sentenced a senior Southern Railway official to rigorous imprisonment for a year in a corruption case.
Additional Special Judge V Sofana Devi also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on V Nagarajan, Technical Head (Loco Works), Mechanical Testing Laboratories, a CBI release said.
He was arrested on December 13, 2012 for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 for promotion of a Chemical and Metallurgy Assistant to the post of Superintendent in his department.
Nagarajan had allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe and was accepting Rs 5,000 as first instalment when he was caught 'red handed' after CBI laid a trap.
CBI had chargesheeted Nagarajan under different sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
