Exhorting party workers to counter BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's claims and expose them before the public, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today asked them to stay united and ensure victory in the Lok Sabha elections.
Aiming at a decisive number for SP in the polls, Mulayam also told his partymen that even if SP won 40 seats, it would be able to play decisive role in formation of the next government at the Centre.
"Netaji (Mulayam) has asked us to expose Modi before the people by telling them the difference between Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. The government there (in Gujarat) is for businessmen, and SP governemnt here is for poor, farmers and youths," an SP leader said here, quoting Mulayam's address to the party's state executive.
During the meeting, which started at 11 am and ended after 4 pm, the party supremo gave tips to the party leaders on how to ensure victory in the "crucial Lok Sabha polls".
He asked party Lok Sabha observers to give factual reports regarding performance of the candidates highlighting shortfall in their poll preparations, and also asked partymen to shun groupism.
Yadav said that even if SP got 40 seats out of the 80 in Uttar Pradesh, it would be able to play a decisive role in the formation of the next government at the Centre.
State executive members also voiced their opinions before the party leadership and some of them also registered their complaints of non-cooperation of party candidates by MLAs and ministers.
State executive member Geeta Singh suggested that Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav meet women including Siksha Mitra (adhoc primary teachers) and 'anganbari' workers and highlight good works done by the government for them.
"This will counter opposition's propaganda that SP was anti-women," she said.
Mulayam had yesterday given a 10-day ultimatum to party ministers and babus in UP to "mend their ways" or face the sack, and even ticked off his son Akhilesh asking him to keep distance from "sycophants".
