Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan today asked the five YSR Congress MPs to reconsider their decision to resign from the House, which they had taken in protest against the Centre's failure to grant special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
In a meeting with the five MPs of the regional party, she prodded them to reconsider their decision, sources said.
They had submitted their resignation letters to the Speaker last month.
The issue of special category status has become a key political plank in the state, and the state's ruling Telugu Desam Party severed its alliance with the BJP over the matter.
The TDP and the YSR Congress are the main contenders for power in the state.
Assembly election in Andhra Pradesh is scheduled for early next year, along with the Lok Sabha polls.
