Special invitees to answer BCCC complaints in southern

Faced with rising number of complaints from viewers of Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam TV channels, the Broadcasting Content Complaints Council has decided to induct 'special invitees' conversant in these languages.
Sources said the BCCC, which is the self regulatory body of entertainment TV industry, has already inducted two special invitees who are conversant in Kannada and Tamil and was planning to invite two more individuals.
Officials said the Council has invited theatre personality Arundhati Nag for dealing with complaints related to Kannada language TV content while eminent conservationist, architect and art lover Tara Murali would be asked to join to hear complaints related to Tamil TV channels.

The council, which is headed by former Delhi High Court Chief Justice A P Shah and has 12 other members, had till now collectively dealt with thousands of complaints related to TV content that reach it every year.
Sources said the members of the council, which include representatives from national commissions, broadcasters, in themselves comprised a diverse group and managed to deal with complaints related to various channels.
"However, it was being felt that over a period of time, the number of complaints made by viewers against regional channels especially those with content in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam was rising," a source said.

"In the wake of an increased number of complaints, it seemed necessary that the base of the council should be expanded and it had been decided that two special invitees, who are proficient in these languages, should be asked to join in the next meeting of the council," the source said.
The two special invitees will be attending the next meeting of BCCC on July 10, the sources said.
