Spent malt used as cattle feed to increase milk production
Press Trust of India Hyderabad Villagers of Fasalvadi in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh have found a novel way of increasing the milk production capacity of their cattle by feeding them spent malt-- waste accumulated from the brewing process-- from a local unit of a beer manufacturing company. "A pilot project was launched last year by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in association with the beer company SABMiller India, under which the waste accumulated from the brewing process is fed to the cattle to increase their milk productivity," Dr Suhas P Wani, Assistant Research Programme Director, ICRISAT told
