Spl foreign exchange counters for tourists in Tamil Nadu

In a bid to help tourists hit by demonetisation, Tamil Nadu government has set up special foreign exchange counters in nine cities and towns in the state.
The counters have been set up in association with private sector ICICI Bank after consultations with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Tourism Commissioner Har Sahay Meena said the government had met RBI officials with the request to set up the counters after noticing that a large number of foreign tourists suffered "even for petty things" due to demonetisation.
"Based on the request, special counters of ICICI Bank for foreign tourists to exchange their currencies have been set up," Meena, who is also Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, said in an official release.

The centres have been set up in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirapalli, Thanjavur, Vellore, Ramanathapuram, Kodaikanal and Thiruvannamalai.
For popular tourism spots like Kanyakumari and Mahabalipuram near Chennai, "similar arrangements are being explored with other banks", the release said.
