Ajay Dhotre (20), a resident of Ayodhya Nagar slums in Chembur, was later arrested by police.
According to RCF police station officials here, Dhotre and the 16-year-old victim were in a relationship for the past three years. After her parents learnt about the affair, the girl began avoiding the accused.
After he failed in his attempts to revive their relationship, a furious Dhotre went to the girl's residence at around 11.30 am today when she was alone and attacked her, the police said.
Later, the police received information that Dhotre was in a 22-storeyed building which is under construction and was threatening to commit suicide.
After more than two hours of drama, the accused was arrested on charges of attempt to murder, criminal assault and wrongful restraint, the police official said, adding that "the girl is undergoing treatment and is out of danger.
