Opener Niroshan Dickwella hit a 86-ball 73-run innings studded with four boundaries but Sri Lanka suffered a collapse, losing four wickets with six runs to slip from 161-3 to 167-7 in 35 overs.
In the end, cameos from lower-order batsmen Asela Gunaratne (27) and Suranga Lakmal (26) took Sri Lanka close to the 250-mark in what is a virtual 'quarterfinal' for both the team.
For Pakistan, Junaid Khan (3/40) and Hasan Ali (3/43) claimed three wickets each, while Mohammad Amir (2/53) and Fahim Ashraf (2/37) took two wickets each.
Sri Lanka: 236 allout in 49.2 overs (N Dickwella 73; Junaid Khan 3/40).
