Srijit's next film talks of people displaced by Radcliffe Line

Ace director Srijit Mukherjee says his forthcoming movie 'Rajkahini' is the story of people who were displaced when the Radcliffe Line separating India from Pakistan came up in 1947.
"The Radcliffe Line, which suddenly popped up on August 17, 1947 demarcating the boundary between India and Pakistan, did not take into account the human factors, about people who lived in the area for ages," the director told reporters.
"My film talks about a house 'kothi' which mirrors the whole Indian sub-continent. I have deliberately chosen such a house - a brothel, since it's denizens are also the so-called have-nots of society and are not bound by caste and religious trappings," the national award-winning director said.

Recalling the first hand accounts of elders about the post-Partition migration and displacement of millions, Srijit said, "The history about these common people are never spoken of in our classroom history books. But their history may be the real history."
Apart from Rituparna Sengupta and Bangladeshi actor Jaya Ahsan, the film has an ensemble cast of Sudipta Chakraborty, Abir Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta, Parno Mitra, Priyanka Banerjee, Sayoni Ghosh and others.
Srijit said he started the research work in 2013 and read several books on the subject of Partition.
"In fact, 'Rajkahini' has some references to Abanindranath Tagore's eponymous book of the same name in the allegorical sense but I will keep it there now," he said.

The film will be released this Puja.
