The incident took place last evening around 7 PM when the victim, identified as Selvaraj, who was posted as a constable with the 48th battalion in Kashmir took an auto from New Delhi railway station to catch a connecting train from Old Delhi Railway Station to join his duty from today.
He was returning after a month-long vacation at his residence in Kerala's Malappuram district.
On returning, the auto-rickshaw driver found Selvaraj lying in a pool of blood. He made a PCR call and Selvaraj was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
In another incident, a 42-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was allegedly shot at by two men in south-east Delhi's Sangam Vihar colony around 9.15 PM last night.
The injured auto-rickshaw driver was identified as Santosh Rathore. The accused, identified as Mukesh and Prince, have been arrested. They had allegedly shot at Santosh's nephew Bishambar (25) but the bullet missed the target and hit him.
In his statement, Santosh also told police that the accused youths extort people in nearby areas.
