Returning officer Shankar Chakraborty said strict security measures were taken by the Election Commission for peaceful conduct of the poll with eight companies of BSF deployed for poll-related duties and the paramilitary Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and CRPF for maintaining law and order.
He said seven check posts were set up in the constituency to curb movement of outsiders and the EC has also deployed four observers.
Burman was elected to the Tripura assembly five times since 1988 and was a prominent leader of the Scheduled Caste community of the state.
Four candidates have filed their nominations, with the main contest between CPI-M contender Tapan Chandra Das and Congress nominee Dwijendralal Majumder.
Altogether 33,392 people are eligible to exercise their franchise. Counting for the by-polls would be held on June 15.
