NCP MLA and former Maharashtra deputy chief minister R R Patil's widow Sumantai Patil today asked the BJP-led state government to take immediate steps to curb gambling at his Assembly constituency in Sangli district.
Sumantai, who was elected in a bypoll from Tasgaon Kavthe Mahakal constituency in the western Maharashtra district last year, said the youth in the region are falling prey to gambling and other vices.
Raising the issue through a point of propriety in the Lower House the MLA claimed that even school children have become "addicted" to gambling while police and local administration have "turned a blind eye" to the menace.
