A six-meter-long python captured by students near Doimukh in Papum Pare district was released at Itanagar zoo here, officials said today.
Byabang Joram, president of All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) along with members of All Palin Chambang Yangte Gangte and Tarak-Langdi Students Union (APCYGTLSU) released the python yesterday, official said.
The reptile was captured by students' leaders at Hoj-Doimukh road between Potin and Hoj, the release said.
While releasing the python, Joram appealed to the people not to kill such reptiles, which maintain ecological balance.
Such gesture would inspire others to promote protection and conservation of wild lives, said curator Raya Flago and urged the students' leaders to create mass awareness on importance of wild life and its link to human survival.
Veterinary medical officer Dr Sorang Tadap, after verifying the reptile, said that the python was in good health.
