Around 200 students and 100 teachers today staged a protest march from Ramlila Ground to Jantar Mantar here against the reforms being introduced in Delhi University.
The protesters demanded the intervention of HRD Ministry as the university has decided to go for a new four-year degree system.
"We are demanding to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to intervene. We are protesting the way the Vice Chancellor is bringing the unnecessary reforms without any prior consultation with the teachers and students," Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) president Amar Deo Sharma told reporters here.
DUTA is also demanding that steps should be taken to fill the vacant teachers' post and they are against unjust system of appraisal for teachers in Delhi University.
"More than 50 per cent teachers at DU are working on temporary basis, permanent vacancies are not being filled from past three to four years. We want the recruitment process to start as early as possible. We are also against the point based appraisal system for teachers," said Abha Dev, a DUTA member.
Some leaders from the political parties like Prakash Javadekar from BJP, Prabodh Panda (CPI), P K Mazumdar (RSP) also joined protest to show solidarity with the DUTA members.
