A group of sub-contractors of Delhi Metro today stage a protest outside the Nehru Enclave station alleging non-payment of their dues, with the DMRC countering that the payment has already been made to the contractor.

The protest took place this afternoon, just ahead of the inauguration of the new corridor of the Magenta Line, on which the Nehru Enclave station is situated.

"Around 30-40 people had come to protest against the alleged non-payment of dues. They were sub-contractors who, claimed that their payments were not released by senior contractors," a police official said.

The protesters arrived at the spot around 4.10 pm and left by 4.40 pm. They were peaceful during their protest, the police said.

The DMRC said all payments have been made to the contractor, who in turn have to pay their sub-contractors (vendors).

"The DMRC has been asking the contractor to make payments to its vendors and labourers for a long time but unfortunately the contractor has more or less abandoned the works about a year ago," the DMRC said in a statement.

"The contention by the contractor that the final payment is pending with DMRC, keeping in view escalation, variation, etc., is misconceived, misleading and not factual," it said.
