Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra remembered Satyajit Ray on the film veteran's 26th death anniversary today, calling him "the master" in the art of filmmaking.

The director took to Twitter to pay homage to the auteur, whose cinematic genius was the epitome of intangible "absolute precision".

"The master. Absolute precision with the frame and what's outside. The sound suggests the world outside and inside the head.

"The music begins at exactly the right point. The dialogue suggests the future and the past. And you know what: one doesn't notice any of this," Mishra quoted a tweet from Film History Pics account remembering Ray as "one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century".

Ray's filmography boasts international classics such as "Apu's trilogy, "Jalsaghar", "Charulata", "Teen Kanya" and "Shatranj Ke Khiladi". He was one of the few directors who used to make a storyboard for his every film.

In 1992, Ray was awarded an Honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement. He was unable to attend the ceremony due to his illness and gave his acceptance speech via live video feed from a hospital bed in Kolkata.

The National Award-winning director died on April 23, 1992 at the age of 71.
