Sugar up on speculative offtake

"Production dilemma of the sweetener due to inadequate rainfall continued to affect the trading sentiments, leading to the upsurge in prices," traders said.

Medium sugar (M-30) zoomed by Rs 109/100 per quintal to Rs 3,430/3,511 from Monday's closing level of Rs 3,321/3,411.

Small sugar (S-30) shot up by Rs 106/91 per quintal to Rs 3,376/3,441 as against Rs 3,270/3,350 previously.

The following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 3,376/3,441 (Rs 3,270/3,350).

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,430/3,511 (Rs 3,321/3,411).
