Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today directed the deputy commissioners to launch a "sustained campaign" to ensure 100 per cent regularisation of illegal colonies in their respective district.
Presiding over a meeting of deputy commissioners (DCs) to review the progress of regularisation of illegal colonies in the state, Badal said all districts would have to expedite the task to achieve 100 per cent regularisation and held the DCs accountable for the job.
"Till date only 1,000 applications have been received from across the state, whereas there are more than 5,500 illegal colonies having lakhs of houses and plots," he said.
Badal asked the deputy commissioners to depute an officer for each colony to organise camp in the area.
"The team would help applicants fill in forms and clear all formalities, besides depositing computation fee," he said.
He asked the DCs to tie up with leading banks of the region for payment collection and draft making process.
Badal said the whole process had been made online to facilitate the user but the onus would be on the officer and his team to ensure that each and every household in his colony complete all formalities by the stipulated time.
The last date for submitting applications is October 7 and there would be no further extension, he said.
He said the Punjab government was committed not to allow any more illegal colonies in the state to maintain the planned character of the state.
Making the DCs Mission-in-Charge of Regularisation, Badal asked them to submit weekly report to his office and by October 7 they would have to certify that there was no single unauthorised colony in their district.
Badal sought cooperation from the people living in these colonies and said there would be no change or relaxation in the policy.
