The residents of Delhi experienced hot and humid weather as maximum temperature settled two notched above normal at 38.8 degrees Celsius and the minimum was recorded at 26.8 degree Celsius.
Humidity caused major discomfort to people in the national capital as it oscillated between 40 and 85 per cent.
Mercury in Punjab and Haryana continued to hover a few notches above normal for this time of the year, with Hisar recording maximum temperature of 42 degree Celsius.
Haryana's Ambala district recorded a high of 37.8 degree Celsius, while Bhiwani experienced a hot day at 39.6 degree C.
Effects of southwest monsoon, however, strengthened over Uttar Pradesh as heavy rains and thundershowers lashed eastern region of the state in the last 24 hours.
While Kaiserganj and Elginbridge areas recorded 44 cm rainfall, Furstaganj, Bahraich and Sirauligauspur received 36, 34 and 21 cms rainfall respectively, an official of UP MeT department said.
Hot and dry weather conditions continued unabated in the desert state of Rajasthan, with Chittorgarh recording the highest maximum temperature of 43 degree Celsius in the state.
While Bikaner and Churu recorded maximum temperatures of 42.6 degree Celsius each, mercury settled at maximum of 42.1 degree Celsius in Sriganganagar, 41.5 deg C in Bikaner, 40.9 deg C in Jaipur, 40 deg in Ajmer, Jodhpur 39.8 and Jaisalmer 39.7 degree Celsius.
Weatherman has predicted light to moderate rains in Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer, and Bikaner divisions in the next 24 hours.
