Sumit Malik stripped off gold medal for anti-doping violation

India's Sumit Malik, who won the 400 metres gold in the men's 400m race has been stripped off his medal for violating anti-doping rules and illegally participating in Lusofonia Games in lieu of a provisional suspension imposed by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
Malik was provisionally suspended with effect from January 7, debarring him from participating in any global or national event.
As per anti-doping rules, the athlete should have refrained from taking part in Lusofonia Games.
However, since he took part in the Lusofonia Games 2014 by keeping the organising committee in the dark, the Committee has decided to strip him off his medal.

The organising committee received the information from the NADA on January 27, that Sumit Malik, gold medallist of Lusofonia Games' 400-metre event was served a notice for anti-doping rules violation under NADA's Anti Doping Rules, 2010.
NADA informed that the copy of the notice was also sent to the Athletics Federation of India.
Results of the 400-metres men's final and the overall medal tally will be ratified accordingly.
