The wildlife monitoring and surveillance system at Rajaji Tiger Reserve has been linked with an Android-based application, an official said on Monday.

Rajaji Tiger Reserve (RTR) is the first establishment in Uttarakhand to use the 'M-STrIPES' application for better monitoring, surveillance and conservation of tigers, Director of the reserve, PK Patra said.

He said the app makes forest personnel in the field more accountable and strengthens the surveillance mechanism at the reserve.

The M-STrIPES application is being used in nine ranges of the RTR to keep an eye on any suspicious activity which could pose a threat to wildlife, Patra said.

The app, developed by Dehradun based Wildlife Institute of India in 2010, is already being used by a number of states in the country for better wildlife conservation, especially for tigers, he said.
