Suspected beef worth Rs 3 lakh being sent to New Delhi was seized at the Sainagar Shirdi railway station here, officials of Railway Police Force (RPF) said today.
38 packets containing suspected beef, each weighing 80 kg worth Rs 3 lakh were lying on the platform. The said material was seized yesterday in a joint raid carried by local RPF officials and RPF's Central Vigilance team, a senior RPF official said on conditions of anonymity.
The packets were being sent to Delhi under the label of "lec fish". A case has been registered against two persons who had booked the parcel. Efforts are on to nab the accused, he said.
The seized material has been sent at forensic lab in Mumbai to ascertain whether it is beef, he said.
The Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act, which bans slaughter of bulls and bullocks, was enforced by the BJP- led government on March 4.
Under the law, anyone found selling beef or possessing it can be jailed for up to five years and fined Rs 10,000.
