Swaran Singh's son Parvinder lit the pyre.
A large number of people from nearby villages and political leaders of various parties except the Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) attended the cremation.
Former Union minister Ambika Soni also attended the cremation and shared the grief with victim's family.
While talking to media, Soni demanded an independent inquiry into the accident, alleging that state police was under pressure from Badal family to hush up the case.
She alleged that it was unfortunate that Punjab Police had been working on the orders of their political masters and if any officer would not follow the orders of Badals, he was transferred.
She said Congress party would take strong stand against "highhandedness" of Badals in this case.
Soni also sought appropriate compensation for the family of Swaran Singh and action against Dabwali Transport driver.
Swaran Singh (40) of Behrampur Zimidara village was knocked down and dragged along allegedly by the bus belonged to Dabwali Transport company owned by ruling Badal family yesterday on Kurali-Ropar road killing him on the spot, the protesters had claimed.
