Sweltering heat in Delhi

Delhiites continued to reel under the sweltering heat even though the mercury dropped marginally compared to last few days.
The maximum temperature dropped to 41.5 degrees Celsius as against 42.8 degrees Celsius recorded yesterday. However, the minimum temperature rose significantly to settle at 31.2 degrees Celsius, five notches above the season's average, said a Met Department official.
"The Safdarjung observatory, the reading of which is considered as the official figure for the city, recorded a maximum temperature of 41.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average.
"The Palam observatory registered a maximum temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius," said the Met official.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director BP Yadav, the day temperature is not expected to rise for the next two three days, though it will hover above the 40 degree mark.
Yadav further said that the drop in maximum temperature was because of the Cyclone Roanu in west central Bay of Bengal.

"Because of the cyclone Roanu which has hit the west central Bay of Bengal, the westerly winds which were prevailing over the northern plains has been replaced by easterly winds which has more moisture in it because of which the night temperature (minimum) has increased and there is a drop in day temperature," said Yadav.

The humidity level oscillated between 64 per cent and 39 per cent.
In what may come as relief, the MeT office has hinted about the possibility of thunderstorm and dust storm towards tomorrow evening and night.
"The skies will be partly cloudy. Thunderstorm and dust storm is likely to occur towards evening and night tomorrow.
""The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 42 degree Celsius and 31 degree Celsius," the Met Forecast said.
Yesterday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 42.8 degrees Celsius while the minimum had settled at 28.6 degrees.
