Talcher Coalfields to produce 100 MT coal during 2018-19

Talcher Coalfields in Odisha's Angul district, part of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd, will alone produce a record 100 million tonne (MT) coal during 2018-19, a top official said Friday.

This will be against Coal India subsidiary MCL's overall target of 162.5 MT production of the dry fuel this year.

Talcher will set a new record this year by producing 100 million tonne, said Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, MCL's Chairman- cum-Managing Director, after a meeting with Area General Managers and Project Officers.

Talcher Coalfields, he said, will be growing production by 50 MT every five years.

This year, it will be a record 100 MT and after five years the production will 150 MT, as the Talcher Coalfields is poised to add to its total production 50 MT coal every five years," he said.

The Talcher Coalfields had contributed over 81 MT to the total 143 MT coal produced by MCL during the 2017-18.

In a departure from practice, the CMD chaired his first meeting of the MCLs Board of Directors at an area office in Talcher Coalfields.
