Talcher hottest place in Odisha at 46.3 degree Celsius

As sweltering heat swept across Odisha, the mercury soared up to 46.3 degree Celsius at the coal town of Talcher, making it the hottest place in the state on Sunday.

With the entire state sizzling under intense heat, the maximum temperature soared above 40 degree Celsius in at least 13 places, said the Meteorological Centre, which has already issued heat wave warning for nine districts.

Closely following Talcher was Titlagarh where the mercury stood at 44.5 degree Celsius, while the maximum temperature was 43.2 degree in Jharsuguda, 43.1 degree in Angul and 43 degree in both Sambalpur and Balangir, it said.

Bhawanipatna recorded 42.5 degree Celsius, while the mercury touched 41.9 degree in Hirakud, 41.6 degree in Sonepur, 41.5 degree in Malkangiri, 41 degree in Sundargarh, 40.6 degree in Keonjhar and 40.5 degree in Chandbali, the MeT centre said.

The maximum temperature in state capital Bhubaneswar was 38.3 degree Celsius, while the mercury touched 39 degree Celsius in neighbouring Cuttack city.

The met centre has already issued heat wave warning on Saturday for nine districts for three days. The districts which are likely to be affected are: Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, Malkangiri, Bargarh, Sonepur, Nuapada and Boudh.
