The impasse regarding immersion of Ganesh idols in Umarkhed tehsil of Yavatmal district has been amicably resolved and immersion is now in progress, official sources said here today.
According to the Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjay Darade, the deadlock about immersion of Ganesh idols in the Umarkhed tehsil was resolved after a dialogue with agitating Ganesh mandal representatives and immersion processions are in progress.
"We told agitating Ganesh mandal representatives that the police would hold an impartial and fair inquiry after which those found guilty would be dealt with as per the law of the land," Sanjay Darade told PTI here after the discussion.
"There will be no pressure from anywhere and the police would not succumb to any such pressure," he said.
It may be recalled that there was stone pelting at the Ganesh procession on Ganesh Chaturti day by anti-social elements in Umarkhed.
The police have arrested 15 miscreants so far from warring groups and filed FIRs against them, after which all of them were given bail by the court.
However, 56 Ganesh mandal representatives in the tehsil met on Sunday in Umarkhed and decided not to immerse of Ganesh idols on Monday.
They have declared an indefinite bandh in the city to press their demand for the immediate arrest of all the culprits and withdrawal of FIRs against Ganesh mandal members.
The district administration and the police department tackled the tense situation and also maintained the law and order situation in the area.
Discussions that followed, solved the impasse on Tuesday after Superintendent of Police Sanjay Darade assured agitators of a fair and impartial enquiry to ascertain facts and promised to take stringent action against those found guilty.
