Sushil Kumar Sharma, who is serving life imprisonment for the gruesome murder of his wife Naina Sahni and throwing her body in a restaurant's tandoor here, today got a breather for three more weeks with the Delhi High Court extending his parole till June 29.
Justice I S Mehta granted the relief after Delhi police said it needs to verify the grounds on which the convict was seeking extension.
"In the meanwhile, parole extended till June 29, 2015 on the same terms and conditions," the court said.
Sharma has sought extension of his parole on the ground that he needs to take care of his ailing mom who has been suffering coronary artery disease and had been advised to undergo coronary angiography with stenting.
He has moved the court as the parole granted to him on May 7 was to expire tomorrow.
He was earlier granted parole to take care of his ailing mother.
Sharma, a former Youth Congress leader, was convicted for murdering his wife Naina, whom he suspected of infidelity.
He shot her with his licensed revolver on July 2, 1995, took her body to a restaurant, chopped it into small pieces and tried to burn it in the restaurant's tandoor (oven).
A trial court had convicted Sharma on November 7, 2003, and awarded him the death penalty.
The high court had upheld his death sentence in February 2007. The Supreme Court, however, commuted the death penalty to life imprisonment on October 8, 2013.
