The technical committee of engineering officials appointed by the Telangana government on the proposed construction of new Secretariat buildings submitted its report on Wednesday.

The report was submitted to the Cabinet sub-committee, formed to go into the issue, an official release said.

The Cabinet sub-committee's members V Prashant Reddy and Srinivas Goud, who received the report, said the panel would soon submit its report to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao with appropriate recommendations.

Rao had on June 27 laid the foundation stone for the construction of new Secretariat buildings here at the same location of the present secretariat.

The Telangana Cabinet had appointed a Group of Ministers headed by Road and Buildings Minister Prashant Reddy on the construction of new secretariat buildings.

The state government has indicated the new secretariat which would come up in about four lakh sq-ft would cost around Rs 400 crore.

The TRS governments move has come under attack by the opposition Congress and BJP which have contended that construction of new buildings was not warranted as the existing structures, built only a few decades ago, were still strong.

TRS, however, has dismissed their criticism, saying the new secretariat would serve people better and be the pride of Telangana.
