Teenagers' entry in night clubs: Register FIR if cognisable

The Madras High Court has directed police to register an FIR if a cognisable offence is made out in a compliant made in connection with allowing boys and girls below 18 years into night clubs being run by a Hotel in the city.

A petition was filed by R. Hemnath alleging that an Hotel situated on an main arterial road was running night clubs till 5 am and allowing entry of boys and girls below 18.

Besides this, the hotel was serving liquor till early hours illegally even after the restricted time of 12 midnight, the petitioner alleged.

When he questioned the Hotel authorities, he was threatened and thrown out, the petitioner alleged.

The petitioner said though he complained, no action was taken nor did the police register an FIR.

Justice MS Ramesh before whom the petition came up recently directed the Commissioner of Police and the Inspector of Police, E3, Teynampet police station, to register an FIR if a cognisable offence is made out.
