Rao formally launched the programme "Mission Kakatiya" at Sadashivanagar in Nizamabad district. On the occasion, he took part in restoration work like removal of silt from a tank.
The government aims to restore over 46,000 tanks in the state in the coming years and over 9,000 tanks this year.
Telangana government allocated Rs 2,083 crore for 'Mission Kakatiya' in its 2015-16 budget presented in the Assembly yesterday.
The programme envisages removal of silt to farms and strengthening of bunds, among others.
