Telangana police will thwart Maoist resurgence attempts: DGP

Telangana police will effectively thwart any attempt by left-wing extremists for resurgence in the state, DGP Anurag Sharma today said while claiming that Maoist ideology hardly remains in the state.
Reacting to queries on yesterday's alleged exchange of fire between Maoists and police in Warangal district in which two cadres - Shruthi and Vidyasagar Reddy - were killed, the Director General of Police (DGP) said, "Our policy is very clear, we will not allow them (Maoists) to gain ground. We will not give any scope for them to resurface in the state."
The woman cadre -- Shruthi, who had completed her BTech, was pursuing MTech, he said.

In June this year, a 19-year-old dropout student Vivek K was among three alleged Maoists shot dead in an "encounter" by police on Telangana-Chhattisgarh border in Khammam.
Asked if the police was noticing any trend that highly educated youths were getting attracted and becoming Maoists, the Telangana Police chief said, "No...It is basically because of personal issues they have joined and there is recruitment of students. Those who have joined did it for personal reasons."
"...It is nothing that their (Maoists) ideological base is developing again and which is helping the young people, specially educated people to go into that. There is literally no ideology left there. Only (due to) personal reasons and personal convictions that are making them (youngsters) join," Sharma claimed.

The Telangana DGP was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event to launch 'Social Media Management Centre' at Cyberabad Police Commissionerate here.
The DGP also launched the new website of Cyberabad Police, SMS gateway for citizens, GPS for patrol vehicles in IT corridor, smart phones and equipment for patrols and interceptors, wi-fi routers and broadband for all police stations.
As part of 'Social Media Management Centre', Cyberabad Police also launched Facebook and Twitter accounts for maintaining public relations through social networking sites.
